Some Wolf (Canis aureus "lupaster", bona species?) pictures...

...taken by Mrs. Mary Megally and Lajos Nemeth-Boka 20 km N of Assuan/Upper Egypt, on the West Bank (11 Nov., 2007). Seems so far the only pictures ever taken and the only observation of living specimen.

To download original Google Earth KMZ file, click here!

Update: From my recent tour to Libya I have got evidence of futher populations. Evidences incl. a skin and a photograph, will published soon.

The name "lupaster"should be used as provisorical, as the name seems to be a junior subj. synonim, while further genus-revision of original type-specimens required (pers. comm by Tony Gonzales, in press).

There will be articles appearing soon about this cryptic taxa in BBC Wildlife and African Geographic Magazines.

I photographed this specimen at 4200-4300 high in Simien Mts. I think its a normal Golden Jackal, but any further comment would be appreciated very much!
